Learning Spaces

At Washington Center Elementary, the related arts including art, music, physical education and the library are essential parts of our students’ learning experience. Each area provides a unique space where students can explore new ideas, express themselves and stay active.

Music

Music education supports both cognitive and non-cognitive growth through a wide range of activities such as singing, playing instruments and recorders, listening, composing, games and movement. Students also have the opportunity to participate in annual music performances that celebrate their progress and creativity.

Art

Art gives students a chance to slow down, look closely and think more deeply about the world around them. Whether they are drawing, painting or exploring other materials, students learn to express their ideas in creative ways. Art challenges learners at every level and helps them connect with their own culture while also learning about others. It’s a space where students grow as thinkers and creators.

Library

The media center is a place where students can explore, read and learn in many ways. With books, technology and other resources in many different formats, it helps students get excited about reading and learning new things. It’s also a great place to discover new interests and hobbies. We have several learning-based activities for students to enjoy throughout each week.

PE

Physical education is an important part of a well-rounded education. It helps students build physical skills, learn the rules of games and understand how exercise supports a healthy lifestyle. PE also encourages students to enjoy being active and develop a positive attitude toward movement, laying the foundation for healthy habits.
