Activities and Clubs
We have a wide variety of extra-curricular activities after school.
Washington Center encourages students to push their boundaries and strive for excellence.
Basketball
Can lead to higher self-esteem and better social interaction.
Basketball introduces young player the game, have more fun in practice, and build strong fundamental skills. It also helps our students have a positive outlook on life.
4th and 5th graders can try out for our boys and girls basketball teams in December.
Knitting Club
Open to 4th Grade students. We meet to learn knitting techniques and to assist one another with knitting projects. Knitting can be very relaxing and promotes concentration and focus skills. (We also eat snacks and have fun.)
Spell Bowl Team
4th and 5th grade students are nominated by their teachers for the Spell Bowl Team. Students learn, practice, and study the 750 words from the Elementary Word List provided by the state. These dedicated students then participate in a Regional IASP Spell Bowl Competition with other teams from area schools.
*In 2023 Washington Center placed 2nd out of 7 teams at the competition and 3rd out of 15 FWCS teams in the red division.
Builders Club
We used STEM and teamwork to build different things each week!
Through Builders Club, students have the potential to be leaders at school, in their community, and in their world, where they will learn they really can make a difference early on in life.
Student Leadership Council
Working with the community and the school to create a better school atmosphere.
Washington Center Student Council helps share students' ideas, interests, and concerns with teachers and school principals. They often also help raise funds for schoolwide activities, including social events.
Cross Country
Washington Center Cross Country team is a running club that promotes physical fitness and teamwork through long-distance running activities.
Math Bowl
The Math Bowl is a club focused on enhancing students' math skills through competitive quizzes and problem-solving.
Washington Center student participants can discover and grow a love of mathematics and the ability to apply knowledge in novel situations.
Language Club
The Language Club, covering Spanish and ASL (American Sign Language), aims to explore and appreciate different languages and cultures.
